The Community Guidelines

We value honesty and integrity in The Community, and we want it to be a place where all members can feel safe, supported, and engaged. As we endeavor to provide a healthy and vibrant community where independent professionals can connect, learn, grow, and build, please help us realize this goal by conducting yourself in accordance with the following community guidelines.

Please Do:

  • Actively engage as much as you’d like. We encourage active engagement, so if you think you have something positive to offer, either in an ongoing conversation or by starting a new one, please jump in.
  • Use kind and courteous language, even if you disagree. We know there will always be differences and disagreements between people, but no matter the circumstance, please always use polite language.
  • Be proactive in searching for topics you’re interested in. We don’t want our discussions to feel like Groundhog Day, so please make an effort to see if there’s already been a recent thread about something you want to ask or learn about.
  • Respect people’s privacy. Treat anything you learn about another member with discretion and the consideration you would like to receive.
  • Stay on topic. Remember that we are a community built for independent professionals to engage professionally; refrain from sharing things too far off-topic.
  • Show appreciation. If someone has helped you in some way, be sure to thank them!
  • Behave as you would in any other professional setting. Sometimes being behind a screen can cause us to behave differently than we would face to face, but we encourage our members to always act with courtesy and respect.

Please Don’t:

  • Use The Community for direct sales and marketing. We know sometimes business connections will happen, but we don’t want our space to be flooded with people trying to market to other members.
  • Share sensitive personal information. Whether it’s yours or someone else’s, please use discretion about what details you share.
  • Post repetitive content. If you shared something and it didn’t get much engagement, please don’t continue re-sharing.
  • Engage in disruptive behavior. Doing things like purposefully trying to change the topic of a discussion or poking fun at someone tends to ruin an interaction for everyone.
  • Engage in political conversation or controversial debates. There are plenty of places online to have those conversations; The Community is not one of them.
  • Post or solicit sexual content. The Community is a professional platform and should be treated as such.
  • Bully, slander, or harass other members. Behavior that falls under this umbrella includes but is not limited to:
    • Making offensive comments or hate speech regarding someone’s race, sexual identity, gender identity, disability, appearance, or religion
    • Intimidation or threats of violence
    • Stalking
    • Unwelcomed sexual advances
    • Repeated contact after being asked to stop

Note: This is not an exhaustive list of unacceptable behavior. If we judge content to be inappropriate or in violation of The Community’s values, we reserve the right to remove it and take action against the original poster via restriction or banning from The Community. Please use common sense when posting and engaging.

If you see or experience something that you feel falls outside of acceptable behavior within the community guidelines, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We will review all reports and seek to resolve them in line with the standards we have laid out in the guidelines. Moderation consequences can include: having a post or comment deleted, having certain restrictions placed on your account, or being banned temporarily or permanently from The Community. Please don’t discuss moderation actions on The Community; these kinds of comments and threads will be deleted.

We truly want The Community to be a place where independent professionals can connect with one another and grow together. If you have any questions about the guidelines or other aspects of The Community, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We’re so glad to have you as a part of our community.
